OVERVIEW
What are we doing?
The site has a definite 'reunion flavor' just now, as our upcoming 50th reunion is the next 'big thing'. Please take a site tour, anytime, and provide
us with updates / corrections when necessary. Pre-reunion, 2010 has seemed like a long way off, but ascertaining classmate locations and integrating
them into our communications loop, deciding upon reunion activities, contracting in advance with vendors, determining cost per attendee and general
banking issues, memorabilia, scheduling are items the 50th RC has tried to stay ahead of - better to be early than experience poorly planned disasters
near the wire. Currently, we are gearing up for our 50th reunion on Saturday, June 12, in Alexandria, Virginia. We
will conduct a mid-day (10:00 AM - 3:00 PM [you can hang out until 6:00 PM if you choose]) catered picnic at the Ft. Hunt Park covered 'C' Pavilion
(rain or shine). Parking and fixed restrooms are nearby. That same evening we will have our reception / banquet / dinner dance blow out at the
Sheraton Suites, 801 N. Saint Asaph Street in Old Town Alexandria. Parking free to attendees, $10 flat for all others.
Where are we going?
Post-reunion, this site can be used as an information conduit for MVHS1960 information and activities, and as a repository of contacts, photos,
rembrances.
THUMBNAIL SKETCH
MVHS1960 50th Reunion (multi class, 1955 - 1965), Saturday, June 12, 2010, rain or shine. Mid-day catered picnic at Ft. Hunt Park, evening bash at the
Sheraton Suites in Alexandria. A memorable day complete with Mount Vernon burgers, photos, videos, T-shirts, name tags, alumni booklets, door prizes,
dinner dance, the works. Very probably the only opportunity in our lives to be with so many other classes at the same time; and we are doing it all
ourselves on the dirt cheap. Details can be referenced on our web site and in our invitational RSVP packet.
ATTENDANCE
As might be expected, registered (read fully paid) attendance is relatively light for some far outlying classes. MVHS1959 conducted their own 50th reunion in September, 2009, and that has cut into their attendance with us in 2010. However,
other sister classes have not held or have no present plans for a 50th reunion, therefore they may attend in force with us. RSVPs will be mailed out
in waves so as to monitor response. Our Attendance50 page displays current paid up attendance.
LOCATION
Sheraton Suites, 801 N. Saint Asaph Street, Alexandria Virginia
If you remember the intersection of 'King and Washington', that is about 6 blocks north and 1 block to the right,
over where the old skating rink and the Virginia theater were located; just past the old Hot Shoppes.
SCHEDULE [all times approximate]
Reception, Happy Hour with Cash Bar and finger-food knoshing, socializing, whatever - 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM
Note: Our photographer will get us together at 7:15 for 2 photos - 1960 only 1st, all sister classes together 2nd.
Dinner - 8:00 PM to 8:45 PM
Podium Hogs - 8:45 PM to 9:30 PM
Dancing - 9:30 PM to Midnight
All of these times are -"ish", you know?
PARKING
There is ample parking for all guests both at the Ft. Hunt picnic grounds (free) as well as at Sheraton Suites in Alexandria.
Sheraton advises that parking is free to those that reserve rooms, $10.00 flat for visitors.
MENU
We opted for a two-choice plan, sirloin steak or grilled salmon. The detailed menu can be found on our '[In Process...]' page. Provisions are being
made for vegan and lactose intolerant options. Other details - In Process
DRESS CODE
We will be in dress down for the midday picnic at Ft. Hunt Park, but in dress up for our evening reception / banquet at Sheraton. We will follow suit
as our last reunion; jacket and tie is great for the men and for the ladies... as fancy as you can stand!
HOSPITALITY SUITE
We will have a hospitality suite open Friday, June 11th through Sunday, June 13th to visit in a more casual manner.
You can view QUICK directions to Ft. Hunt Park on the Directions page. Alternatively, you can use the interactive maps on our Area Maps page.
PLEASE REVIEW YOUR DATA
With so many people to track, it is inevitable that various transcription errors occur. Please take the time to review the information we have for you
on our web site. You want your registration check to be honored and your name tag to be correct, don't you?
Please pay particular attention to the spellings of your name and that of any guests, including your relationship to them; we may have entered either one improperly.
You can double check your data on any of the '19nn Track' pages from our Site Index. And yes, we need to know about inaccuracies ASAP!
I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT IT
So... just contact us, email preferred WITH your current postal - we'll put our 'priority push' on it!
I CAN'T FIND MY RSVP NOW
If you previously received an invitation, misplaced it, but still want to attend; or previously declined and have changed your mind, contact the
Site Guy immediately; you will be mailed another immediately.
I DIDN'T EVEN GET ONE
If you want to attend, believe you should have received an invitation, but have not, you WON'T! until we receive your current postal
location. Email and / or tel# just isn't good enough. Please provide us with your postal address ASAP.
I WANT TO BRING MORE GUESTS
We would normally say, "Call us and send more $; we are wide open". However, because our banquet seating space has a
legal maximum limitation and we are fillup up rapidly, we ask you to limit yourself to one guest only so as to save room for actual alumni.
YOUR Contact Data
It would help us greatly if you would provide us minimally with an email address (it doesn't have to be your own), so you can be included in our
electronic loop and receive occasional reunion updates. If your contact data changes, please let us know. If all we have is an email and you change
it, which happens all too frequently, we lose complete track of you. Please consider at least two forms of contact.
Questions ???
Please contact (email preferred) our web site mad scientist 'Site Guy', Darryl W. Dockins or by
telephone at 1-308-762-8908; or anyone on our 50th Reunion Committee; or again, take a site tour,
anytime.
The GOOD
We have recently achieved a 50% point in classmate location, not too shabby after a half century!
We have 132 paid banquet attendees so far with another 10 "check is in the mail" promises which leaves 18 banquet slots left, so if you know any classmates who are fence sitting, you might remind them that time is VERY short to reserve space for themselves.
The BAD
We are still unable to locate about 50%, or 140 of our 280 putativey living MVHS1960 classmates, including many you would not have expected to 'disappear'. Please look over our list of Missing and help us if you can. The 50th Reunion Committee considers this to be the single highest
priority item on our planning agenda.
The UGLY
Several MVHS1960 alumni that we managed to locate have already indicated that they do NOT plan to attend.
We hope many will change their minds about whay COULD be our last reunion and relent before it is too late; several already have. We have already
permanently lost almost 1 in 12 of our classmates. Perhaps you would like to give your friends a call and jawbone them a little??? Please visit our
various '19nn Track' pages from the Site Index to check on their whereabouts.
INVITATIONS
We have located as many alumni as we are able, and although we try to add to our listings, we no longer have time to search
for others. All those for whom we have a valid postal address have already been invited. CAN YOU HELP??? Attendees cannot be invited in any manner
except via the MVHS1960 50th Reunion Committee's official RSVP postal packet. No postal address, no official
invitation, no exceptions; and please, no surprise arrivals at either event. We need to conduct operations this way because we require a hardcopy
paperwork financial auditing trail to control the process for both ourselves and our many vendors (who require accurate in-advance head counts so they
know how many to provide for), and to help retain our sanity.
